Commander Rodney Gehrett
Commander Rodney Gehrett started his career with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in the Detention Bureau in June 1995. His assignments have included Court Services Deputy at the El Paso County Courthouse, Shift Sergeant at the Criminal Justice Center, and Accreditation Unit Sergeant within the Professional Standards Division.
He was promoted to Lieutenant in July of 2001, and completed assignments as Training Director, Standards and Technologies Manager, and Public Information Officer. He was promoted to the rank of Commander in 2011, and is currently assigned to the Administrative Services Division.
During his career, Commander Gehrett has been very active within the community. He has served on numerous boards and committees within the Pikes Peak Region and across the state of Colorado. These include the Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Advanced Officer Training Committee, the Quality of Life Indicators Vision Panel, and the Community Corrections Board, among others. Additionally, he has participated in several additional duties within the Office. He served as member of the Special Response Team (SRT) from 1996 until 2000, and is a graduate of the Colorado Department of Corrections Special Operations Response Team (SORT) Academy. He completed the County Sheriffs of Colorado (CSOC) Instructor Course in 1999, and has served as a primary instructor during the Basic Recruit Academy, Basic SRT Academy, and annual In-Service Training. His topics of instruction include Civil Disturbances/Crowd Control, the Accreditation Process, Less Lethal Munitions, Tactical Navigation, Leadership and Teambuilding.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Colorado State University-Pueblo, and is a graduate of the Penn State Justice and Safety Institute, Police Executive Development (POLEX) program.
In addition to his service with the Sheriff’s Office, Commander Gehrett has an extensive military background. He recently completed his 29th year of military service. He is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. He serves as a Major with the US Army Reserve and is currently a Psychological Operations Officer, assigned to NORAD and USNORTHCOM at Peterson Air Force Base.
