25th Annual Pikes Peak Region Peace Officers' Memorial Day Service

May 16, 2018 - 11:10am

On Friday, May 18, 2018, law enforcement agencies and military installations will gather at the newly dedicated Law Enforcement Memorial at Memorial Park, at 10:00 AM for the 25th Annual Pikes Peak Region Peace Officers' Memorial Day Service.  The memorial service honors the 32 Pikes Peak Region peace officers who have given their lives in the line of duty since 1895. The keynote speaker for the event is Rachael Flick, wife of fallen Detective Micah Flick of the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.  Detective Flick died in the line of duty on February 5, 2018.

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, as National Police Week. This week pays special recognition for those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety of others. On average in the United States, one law enforcement officer is killed in the line of duty every 57 hours, and more than 21,000 have made the ultimate sacrifice.

The public and media are invited to attend this auspicious ceremony honoring those officers from our Region who have made the ultimate sacrifice.  Seating is limited and we anticipate there will be standing room only. If you are unable to attend, you can watch a live stream of the service by going to the Sheriff's Office Facebook page at EPC Sheriff's Office.
