On January 22, 2015, the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen vehicle. As deputies responded to the address, the suspect fled the residence on foot. Initial attempts to locate the suspect were unsuccessful. Further investigation revealed the identity of the suspect as being Antonio Reddell, a white males, 25 years of age, and a Colorado Springs resident. Reddell was wanted on multiple felony counts including Motor Vehicle Theft.
In January 23, 2015, Sheriff’s Office Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) and Patrol deputies attempted to contact Reddell at an address on Chiricahua Drive. He was not located, but two others were taken into custody for outstanding warrants. Due to the allegations that Reddell was armed, consistently wore body armor and making threats to shoot any law enforcement officer he came into contact with, locating him became a top priority for the Sheriff’s Office. Extensive efforts were made to identify and interview all of Reddell’s known family, friends and associates in the area in an attempt to locate him.
On January 27, 2015, an off duty deputy radioed an on call Patrol Sergeant that he had spotted Reddell traveling westbound on Galley Road. This information was relayed to the Sheriff’s Office Crime Reduction Unit and the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) Safe Streets Task Force. Personnel began responding to the area. Realizing he was being followed, Reddell began evasive action and temporarily eluded our units. It was learned Reddell was renting a storage unit on Pikes Peak Avenue. Surveillance of the business was set up by the CSPD Safe Streets Task Force and Metro VNI. While a search warrant was being obtained, Metro VNI noticed activity inside the storage unit. Law enforcement closed in and took Reddell into custody without incident. The collaborative effort between agencies quickly brought Antonio Reddell’s crime spree to an end and resulted in the clearing of six felony warrants. Reddell also incurred new felony charges for the possession of burglary tools and the possession of a stolen Yamaha ATV. As a result of this investigation and subsequent arrest, the Sheriff’s Office Patrol and Crime Reduction Units recovered a total of four stolen motor vehicles.
Sheriff Elder would like to thank the Colorado Springs Safe Streets Task Force, Colorado Motor Vehicle Task Force, Metro VNI, CSPD Tactical Enforcement Unit, the Sheriff’s Office SWAT, Crime Reduction Unit and Patrol Division for their outstanding collaborative effort which led to this arrest and closure of numerous cases.
