Arrest Made in Social Media Threat Closing Ellicott Schools
On Sunday, February 21, 2016, at approximately 11:00 PM, the Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received information regarding a threat posted on the “After School” chat site involving Ellicott Schools. “After School” is a group chat site where members can post anonymously to specific school threads.
As a result of this posting, a decision was made by the Ellicott School Superintendent to close the school district on Monday, February 22, 2016. The Sheriff’s Office has been working with the owners of the “After School” site as part of our investigation.
As a result of our investigation, a 15 year old was arrested and charged with Attempt to Influence a Public Official and Interference with an Educational Institution.
