On Monday, September 12, 2016, at approximately 10:35 AM, a Deputy encountered a white Mitsubishi Montero which ran a red light and was driving at an excessive rate of speed. The Deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop and a pursuit ensued until the Deputy lost visual of the vehicle. The pursuit was then terminated.
A short time later the vehicle crashed into a rock on the property of Arbor Point Apartments, located on the 2300 block of Hancock Expressway. The suspect then fled on foot and was still at large.
On Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at approximately 3:10 PM, Deputies learned the suspect may be inside a residence in the 3100 block of Coral Ridge Drive. The suspect was wanted on 10 active Felony warrants, 4 misdemeanor warrants, and new charges stemming from the the incidents on Monday, September 12, 2016. Members of Patrol, Crime Reduction Unit and K-9 Unit responded to the Coral Ridge Drive address for close containment and observation. A search warrant was then obtained for the residence.
With the assistance of the EPSO SWAT, K-9, Investigations, Patrol, Mobile Command Post, Crisis Negotiations Unit, and CSPD Patrol and Bearcat, the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
The suspect has been identified as Tyson Black Dunkel, DOB: 09/07/93. He has been booked into the Criminal Justice Center on the charges of First Degree Criminal Trespass, First Degree Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft, Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft (2 counts), Aggravated Robbery (2 counts), Felony Menacing (2 counts), Third Degree Burglary (2 Counts), Theft, Second Degree Assault, Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender, Violation of Bail Bond Conditions (2 counts), Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Identity Theft, Obstruction, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, Violation of a Restraining Order, Harassment (2 counts), Driving Under Restraint (2 counts), Failure to Provide Evidence of Insurance, Number Plates Attached and When Lighted Lamps are Required.
