As was previously reported, on September 5th, 2021, at around 2:40 PM, a swimmer at the Rampart Reservoir went missing. EPSO deputies, El Paso County Search and Rescue, and the Colorado Springs Fire Department dive team responded and began attempts to rescue the swimmer. Later that evening their efforts unfortunately transitioned to a recovery operation.
Today at around 8:30 AM the body of this missing swimmer was located underwater. The body was subsequently recovered by members of the Colorado Springs Fire Department dive team and members of the Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife. Members of the El Paso County Coroner’s Office responded and took possession of the body in order to perform a formal autopsy to determine an official cause of death.
Information regarding the reopening of certain areas of the Rampart Reservoir recreation area closed due to this incident will come from the United States Forest Service.
