Celebrating the Completion of the Rex and Meridian Roads Intersection Improvement Project

Nov 21, 2024 - 2:30pm

Today, members of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit joined El Paso County Public Works and El Paso County Commissioner and Board Chairman Carrie Geitner to celebrate the completion of the Rex and Meridian Roads Intersection Improvement Project.

Previously, Sheriff Roybal had addressed concerns related to this specific section of unincorporated roadway due to a high volume of traffic accidents and citations for speeding and reckless driving in the area. This investment has enhanced safety and traffic flow for the Falcon community by installing a new traffic signal, widening the road, and improving various infrastructures.

El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal issued the following statement following the ceremony:

“I am pleased to see this critical project completed,” said El Paso County Sherif Joseph Roybal. “I commend El Paso County Public Works and the Board of County Commissioners for recognizing the need to improve our unincorporated roadways. By installing this new traffic light and widening the road, drivers, passengers, and pedestrians will be safer when commuting to work, school, or recreational activities.

“Sadly, in recent years, El Paso County has been ranked number one for traffic fatalities in Colorado. Collaborative efforts, such as the Rex and Meridian project, education, and enforcement, are making a significant impact and keeping citizens on our roads safer. Thank you to everyone involved in this effort, from our El Paso County partners to the hard-working construction workers, drivers, and my deputies, for working together to see this project come to fruition successfully.”
