This week, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit Sergeant Jason Haag was chosen to serve as the Chairman of the Pikes Peak Region DUI Task Force. The Pikes Peak Region DUI Task Force was formed in 2005 in response to the high number of fatal traffic crashes in Colorado Springs and El Paso County involving alcohol and/or drugs. Their mission is to eradicate all forms of impaired driving through enforcement, education, and community partnerships.
The Task Force meets monthly and includes representatives from law enforcement and community groups across the Pikes Peak Region. Members share goals to pool enforcement resources, educate road users, and increase the community's awareness of the negative aspects of impaired driving.
“I am extremely proud of Sergeant Haag’s appointment as Chairman to the Pikes Peak Region DUI Task Force,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “Roadway safety has been a primary focus for my Administration, and I am confident Sergeant Haag will lead this critical group towards positive, measurable results for our community. Under his leadership as our Traffic Unit Sergeant, we have drastically increased our traffic surge operations, conducted joint training opportunities with our regional law enforcement partners, and brought meaningful, targeted education opportunities to churches, community groups, schools, and businesses in the Pikes Peak region. Congratulations, Sergeant Haag! Through your position as chairman, I am confident you will make our community safer for pedestrians, passengers, and drivers on El Paso County roads.”
Sergeant Haag’s appointment marks the first time since the task force was established where El Paso County has held the chairman leadership position.

I am committed to ensuring the success of our mission over the next few years and hope to grow our impact beyond the boundaries of the Pikes Peak region. All Colorado road users should be able to return home safely to their families after using our public roads.”
In addition to regional law enforcement partners, the Task Force includes community groups with a role within or focus on public safety. Task Force members include UC Health, Common Spirit, Drive Smart Colorado, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Colorado Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor, military collaborative partners, and the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The Pikes Peak Region DUI Task Force meets monthly to discuss trends, available training, and networking to combat this public health crisis. It also hosts the annual Ken Jordan Excellence in DUI Enforcement awards, recognizing law enforcement officers who go above and beyond in impaired driving enforcement. The 2025 Ken Jordan Award Ceremony will be held on February 11, 2025, at the Office of the Sheriff (27 East Vermijo Avenue) in downtown Colorado Springs.
