On October 31, 2015, at 8:45 AM, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received a call for service regarding shots fired in the 200 block of North Prospect Street.  Officers received a description of the suspect and their direction of travel.  Officers encountered the suspect at Platte Avenue and Wasatch Street.  The suspect fired multiple shots at the officers.  CSPD officers returned fire.

The crime scene investigation covers multiple city blocks.  CSPD will be investigating the crimes which lead up to the officer involved shooting.  As a result of Senate Bill 15-219, Concerning Measures to Provide Additional Transparency to Peace Officer-Involved Shootings, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO) will be investigating the officer involved shooting.  Colorado Revised Statute 16-2.5-301, provides the statutory requirements for these investigations.

The officers involved have been placed on routine administrative leave in accordance with CSPD policy.

We can confirm there are three victims who are deceased.  In addition to these three victims, the suspect is also deceased.  We do not believe there is any further threat to the community.

The following roads are closed; Platte Avenue from Corona Street to Weber Street, both east and westbound lanes are closed.  Wasatch Street from Kiowa Street to Boulder Street both north and southbound lanes are closed.  Prospect Street from Bijou Street to Platte Avenue.  It is anticipated these roads will be closed for at least the next six to ten hours.

Once the El Paso County Sheriff's Office completes our investigation into the officer involved shooting, it will be given to the District Attorney’s Office for review. The District Attorney’s Office will then provide their report based on Senate Bill 15-219.
