On Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at 8:48 PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received a call for service regarding a burglary in progress in the 2400 block of Sierra Springs. The suspect fired multiple shots at the officers. CSPD officers returned fire.
The suspect then got into his vehicle and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of Ruskin Drive and Whittier Drive. Upon exiting his vehicle, CSPD officers fired additional rounds hitting the suspect.
The suspect was placed into custody and taken to a local hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The officers were uninjured and have been placed on routine administrative leave in accordance with CSPD policy.
As a result of Senate Bill 15-219, Concerning Measures to Provide Additional Transparency to Peace Officer-Involved Shootings, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO) will be investigating the officer involved shooting. Colorado Revised Statute 16-2.5-301, provides the statutory requirements for these investigations.
Once the El Paso County Sheriff's Office completes our investigation into the officer involved shooting, it will be given to the District Attorney’s Office for review. The District Attorney’s Office will then provide their report based on Senate Bill 15-219.
