On Wednesday, December 14, 2016, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding a possible sexual assault on a child.  The information surrounding the allegation was initially provided to a deputy, who in turn involved detectives from our Investigations Division, Special Victims Unit.

On Wednesday, January 4, 2017, following a thorough investigation, 22 year old Paul Wayne Ion was arrested and booked into the Criminal Justice Center for Sexual Assault on a Child and other related charges. 

On Wednesday, August 16, 2017, Paul Wayne Ion pleaded guilty to Sexual Assault on a Child, a Class 4 Felony. He was sentenced under Colorado’s Indeterminate Sentencing Law which carries 2 years to life in the Colorado Department of Corrections with the possibility of a minimum parole of 10 years to life.  He is also required to register as a Sex Offender upon his release from Department of Corrections.
