On April 27, 2020, at approximately 9:42 PM, one of our deputies observed a vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 25 near Tejon Street at a high rate of speed. The deputy was able to obtain a license plate and determined the vehicle was listed as stolen. He caught up to the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled and continued south on Interstate 25. The deputy shut off his lights and sirens and did not pursue the vehicle. As the deputy was at a red light, he saw the suspect vehicle crash and high center on the median on Circle Drive just to the west of Interstate 25.
As he approached the scene of the crash, three males exited the vehicle and ran towards the 1700 block of East Cheyenne Mountain Boulevard.
Another deputy heard the call come in and was nearby. Both deputies initiated a foot pursuit. Both deputies took two male suspects into custody. One of the suspects captured was determined to be the driver of the vehicle and was identified as Zane Bragg (DOB: 05/18/2001).
Bragg was medically cleared and booked into the El Paso County Jail on the following charges: First Degree Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft, Vehicular Eluding, Criminal Mischief $5K to Less Than $20K, Resisting, as well as multiple traffic infractions.
We would like to thank the Colorado State Patrol and the Colorado Springs Police Department for their assistance.
A mugshot of Bragg is attached to this press release.
