On Tuesday, November 5, 2019, the Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received notice they have been awarded re-accreditation with the with the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch. This is the seventh time they have been accredited since 1999 and are one of only 15 agencies in the world achieving this milestone.
This was no small endeavor due to multiple changes in the standards regarding protocol, the consolidation of the Sheriff’s Office and Fountain Police Department Communications, and significant staffing shortages since our last accreditation.
The Communications Center dispatches for eight law enforcement agencies and 22 fire departments. In 2018, they processed over 314,000 telephone calls.
Sheriff Elder said “I could not be prouder of the members of our Communications Center who work so diligently day in and day out to provide Police, Fire and Medical assistance to those in our community. Their commitment to their profession and citizens of El Paso County is unparalleled. I would like to congratulate them on a job well done and achieving this distinguished accomplishment.”
