On July 24, 2021, at approximately 11:57 PM, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division received a phone call from the Manitou Springs Police Department requesting assistance in conducting a death investigation at a hotel located in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. The investigation involved the death of a juvenile (4 year-old child).

Detectives responded to the scene, conducted witness interviews, and executed search warrants on three rooms at the hotel.

Preliminary investigation revealed nothing suspicious surrounding the incident. There was no immediate cause of death determined by the examination of the child by the Coroner's Office.

Today, August 10, 2021, our detectives and medical professionals with the Coroner's Office have gathered facts to identify this as a Child Abuse/Neglect Resulting in Death case. The cause and manner of death will be released by the Coroner's Office.

There is no known threat to the community.  Additional information will be provided as the investigation allows.
