Sheriff's Office Experiences First Saved Life with Use of Narcan

On Thursday, August 3, 2017, at approximately 10:54 PM, deputies were dispatched to the 6500 block of Roundup Butte Street in reference to a Suicidal Check the Welfare call.

The reporting party stated her boyfriend had left the home and was suicidal.  The boyfriend told the reporting party he had taken 100 Vicodin pills.  The reporting party was able to provide GPS coordinates for the boyfriend near Old Pueblo Road and Birdsall Road.  At approximately 12:36 AM, deputies located the boyfriend inside his vehicle at that location.

The boyfriend was breathing but was not responsive.  Medical personnel were requested to the scene.  His breathing became very shallow and began to pause for an extended period of time between breaths.  Narcan was then administered and his breathing began to improve.

Medical personnel arrived on scene and transported him to the hospital for further treatment.

"The importance of providing first responders with effective tools like Narcan, can never be understated.  A life was saved, and without Narcan this would not have been possible."  Sheriff Bill Elder.
