Sheriff's Office Investigates a Death.
On October 10, 2022, at approximately 6:25 a.m., the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Communications Center received a 911 call from the 2100 block of B St. The caller reported a male party with multiple injuries.
Sheriff's Office and medical personnel responded to the scene. Medical aid was rendered, and the male party was determined to be deceased. There does not appear to be any ongoing threat to the community. The victim was located on private property known to be frequented by individuals who are homeless.
As this is an active investigation; further information will be provided as it becomes available. Identification of the victim and the cause and manner of death will be determined by the El Paso County Coroner's Office.
Investigators are working to determine if there is a connection between the fire at a nearby homeless camp and the deceased individual. The Stratmoor Hills Fire Department is the lead agency regarding the fire and will provide any associated information on the fire investigation.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is aware of the homeless camps and the potential for crimes associated with them. The Sheriff's Office works in coordination with El Paso County Code Enforcement, the El Paso County Attorney, and local volunteer agencies to actively address community concerns in these areas. We completed a significant clean-up effort earlier this year in this general area. In many situations, the Sheriff's Office has cooperation from private property owners to clean up and address homeless camps. Unfortunately, when property owners do not cooperate with the Sheriff's Office on properties where homeless camps have been allowed by the owner, the Sheriff's Office must follow civil law to legally intervene.
