On Tuesday, February 21, at approximately 5:00 PM, officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a home in the 2900 block of Illinois Ave in search of a suspect wanted on felony domestic violence charges.  Upon arrival, a person matching the description of the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle with officers in pursuit.

In the 2900 block of Templeton Gap, the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot with officers in pursuit. The suspect forcibly entered a home in the 2800 block of Elm Meadow View, confronted the occupants with a gun in his hand, and stole their vehicle, fleeing the scene with officers in pursuit.  CSPD officers forcibly stopped the suspect vehicle near the intersection of Circle Drive and Palmer Park Avenue and shots were fired. 

The suspect was taken to Memorial Hospital where he died of his injuries. The identity of the suspect will be released once the autopsy has been completed. 

The officers were uninjured and have been placed on routine administrative leave in accordance with CSPD policy.  There is no current threat to the community regarding this sequence of events.                         

As a result of Senate Bill 15-219, Concerning Measures to Provide Additional Transparency to Peace Officer-Involved Shootings, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO) will be investigating the officer involved shooting.  Colorado Revised Statute 16-2.5-301, provides the statutory requirements for these investigations. 

This is an ongoing investigation and information will be released as the investigation allows.  Once the El Paso County Sheriff's Office completes our investigation into the officer involved shooting, it will be given to the District Attorney’s Office for review. The District Attorney’s Office will then provide their report based on Senate Bill 15-219.
