On April 5, 2021, at approximately 12:20 AM, the Colorado Springs Police Department Communications center dispatched officers to an armed robbery that was occurring at a convenience store located in the 3000 block of West Colorado Avenue. It was reported there were multiple suspects that fled the scene in a silver Toyota 4-Runner.
Officers spotted a vehicle that matched the description and attempted a traffic stop. As the officer attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, a suspect within the vehicle shot at least one round at the officer.
A pursuit ensued and multiple times during the pursuit suspects within the vehicle shot at officers. When the pursuit neared the intersection of Chelton Road and Delta Drive, one of the officers administered a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) which was successful. Shots were fired again at officers and at least two officers fired at least one round each at a suspect. Two suspects were transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and two other two other individuals were detained.
As a result of the investigation, three of the four suspects have been arrested. Corey Roque, DOB: 03/09/1995, and Keiandre Shelton, DOB:05/08/2000, have been booked into the El Paso County Jail on four counts each of Criminal Attempt First Degree Murder of a Peace Officer and Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender. Bryan Rodriguez, DOB: 06/21/2000, was booked into the El Paso County Jail on the charge of Felony Vehicular Eluding.
In accordance with Colorado Revised Statute 16-2.5-301, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office is the lead investigative agency for this officer-involved shooting. This is an ongoing investigation and information will be released as appropriate.
The involved officers were not injured and have been placed on administrative leave per their policy. Information regarding the law enforcement officers involved in this incident will come from the Colorado Springs Police Department.
