On Friday, July 22, 2016, the Sheriff's Office responded to All'N'One, located on the 2000 block of B Street regarding a fraud.
The cashier completed a transaction with two customers who used a counterfeit $100 bill to pay for a hat, and provided the change, after using security measures to ensure the bill was not counterfeit. A short time later another male entered the store with the previously purchased hat and exchanged it for a different hat. He then gave the cashier a $100 bill to pay for the difference. The bill was checked for authenticity, the change was provided and the male left the store.
These bills were taken to a bank and it was confirmed they are counterfeit. Manitou Springs Police Department and the Colorado Springs Police Department have seen an increase in recent weeks of other cases involving counterfeit $100 bills.
Surveillance photos of the two suspects who passed the counterfeit bills are attached to this Media Release. If anyone knows the identity or whereabouts of these suspects, please contact the lead in this case, Deputy Lora Lowry at 719-208-1380 or call the Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center at 719-390-5555.
