On August 12, 2022, 55-year-old Beth Aper reportedly exited a vehicle driven by her husband on Judge Orr Road and North Calhan Highway and walked away with only two trash bags of clothes and her cellphone.
Beth was a family-oriented woman who loved her family and never missed a holiday, a birthday, or a family gathering. Her disappearance was highly concerning due to its sudden nature and severance with family.
On the morning of February 24, 2024, human remains were found on the side of Highway 115 in Fremont County. The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office contacted detectives with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office of the discovery, and began a joint investigation along with the Fremont County Coroner.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is saddened to report on March 4, 2024, the remains were confirmed to be those of Beth Aper.
“El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Detectives are aggressively following leads to understand and determine the facts in Ms. Aper’s final moments, and how she could be left callously on the side of a road”, said Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “My heart goes out to her family and friends during this difficult time. My Office will not stop working on this case until we have answers.”
The Sheriff’s Office greatly appreciates the collaborative work of the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, the Fremont County Coroner’s Office, and the El Paso County Coroner’s Office.
This is an active investigation; additional information will be released as it becomes available.
