On December 12, 2016, members of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 3400 block of West Colorado Avenue, regarding a medical alert.  Upon arrival, law enforcement found Michael Dorland DOB 12/13/58 with multiple injuries from an apparent assault.
 
Mr. Dorland was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.   On December 28, 2016, Mr. Dorland succumbed to complications related to his injuries.  The death was ruled a homicide.
 
Investigative efforts revealed allegations of the display and threat to use a weapon on the part of Mr. Dorland on December 12, 2016.
 
Evidence and statements collected by investigators corroborated the statement made by the individual who struck Mr. Dorland.   
 
The case was presented to the 4th Judicial District Attorney.  The District Attorney declined to pursue criminal charges as a result of the investigation.
