The Sheriff's Office has received intelligence of another phone scam. The caller threatens the individual they have an active warrant and must obtain a money order and meet at a specific location to pay to clear up the warrant. If they don't pay, they will be arrested. In these most recent cases, they are using the name of an actual employee of the Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office would like to remind citizens that our Office NEVER calls or sends texts to inform individuals they have an active warrant. We will also NEVER call to ask for money, for any reason.
Scammers prey on the fear of law-abiding citizens. It is important to remember if you get a call like this, please do not give them any personal information, hang up immediately and contact your local law enforcement agency. If you have information about or fallen victim to this or any other scam, please contact 719-390-5555, and ask to have a deputy to come out and take a report.
