The El Paso County Sheriff's Office recently became aware of a forgery case pertaining to the Sheriff’s Office Inmate Funds account. When inmates are released from the Criminal Justice Center (CJC) they are issued a check with the Sheriff’s Office account information at the bottom.
The suspects were making checks using the Sheriff’s Office account number and cashing them for various amounts. Six suspects either attempted to cash or were successful in cashing approximately $2,600 in fraudulent checks. Detective Kelsey worked diligently, writing two search warrants and six arrest warrants, closing this case. As of February 2, 2015, all six suspects have been arrested and charged with Identity Theft, Forgery, and Theft.
The Sheriff's Office would like to recognize Detective Amanda Kelsey for her excellent work in solving this case.
