South Academy Shooting Investigation

Today at approximately 11:22 AM a call came in to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center.

The caller reported an adult male on a motorcycle shot at another vehicle in the vicinity of I-25 and South Academy.

Soon after, we received a call from the victim from an address in the Security-Widefield area of unincorporated El Paso County.
Deputies responded and rendered medical aid to an adult victim who had a single non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

During their investigation, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were able to identify the suspect and determine their location to be a residence on Chadwick Drive in the Stratmoor Valley neighborhood near the original scene.

Members of our tactical unit arrived on scene at approximately 4:30 pm this afternoon and took the suspect into custody at approximately 5:20 pm.

The suspect has been identified as 40-year-old Nelson Boyer.  He was charged with Attempted Murder, 1st Degree Assault, Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, and Reckless Endangerment.

Aside from the shooting victim, no other members of the community or deputies were harmed.
