On November 28, 2018, at approximately 3:06 AM, deputies observed a vehicle driving erratically and weaving. Deputies believed the subject could be under the influence and a traffic stop was initiated in the area of South Academy Boulevard and Bradley Road, resulting in a pursuit.
The suspect vehicle then turned into oncoming traffic and swerved towards two deputies. Both deputies were able to avoid the suspect’s attempts to ram them at a high rate of speed.
The pursuit concluded at Cresta Loma and La Mar Place when the suspect vehicle came to rest against the street sign. There was minor damage to a deputy's vehicle when the truck the suspect was driving didn’t complete the turn.
The suspect remained hostile but was taken into custody. Evidence suggests the suspect was under the influence of narcotics and the vehicle he was driving had fictitious plates.
The suspect has been identified as Ramon Joseph Gomez, DOB: 05/09/86.
Gomez has been booked into the Criminal Justice Center jail on the charges of 2 counts of Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer, Second Degree Assault and Vehicular Eluding - Substantial Risk of Death to Another.
A mug shot of Gomez is attached to this media release.
