Suspect Identified in Officer Involved Shooting on Galley Road and Space Center Drive

On Thursday, February 27, 2020, at approximately 03:42 AM, an off-duty officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) called our Communication Center through the 9-1-1 phone line.  The off-duty officer reported he was involved in a shooting in the drive-through of a fast food restaurant, located at the 1000 block of Space Center Drive. 

Deputies arrived and performed life saving measures on an unknown male; however, he succumbed to his injuries while on scene. 

The suspect has been identified as Desmond Hayes, age 28.  The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Coroner's Office once they have all the information to make a ruling.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigative agency for this officer involved shooting.  This is an ongoing investigation and all updates will only be provided by the Sheriff's Office Public Information Office.
