On May 22, 2016, Gustavo Torres-Gonzalez, DOB 11/25/1972 was arrested for the shooting death of Daryl Ritz, as well as unrelated charges out of Teller County Colorado. Investigators are seeking the public’s help in this case.
Torres-Gonzalez is believed to have fled the murder scene on foot from the 12000 block of Judge Orr Road to the area of the Safeway Supermarket located at 7655 McLaughlin Road in the afternoon or early evening hours of May 16, 2016.
He may have been wearing dark pants and possibly a gray or red jacket. If you live in the residential area within the boundaries of HWY 24 to the Southeast, Judge Orr Road and Meridian Ranch Boulevard to the North, Eastonville Road to the West, and 7566 McLaughlin Road to the South, and saw the suspect or someone who resembled him in the area on May 16, 2016, we are asking you to call the Sheriff’s Office and report it. Further, if you experienced something out of the ordinary, such as someone crossing through your backyard we are asking you to call.
If you have security video that could have captured video on May 16th in the area described, we are asking you to notify the Sheriff’s Office.
Additionally, the victim’s cell phone is believed to have been stolen during the commission of the murder and taken from the scene by the suspect. Phone records indicate the phone was taken to the area of Black Forest and Shoup Road. If you recently found an iPhone 6 in that area, regardless of its condition, we are asking that you notify the Sheriff’s Office.
A mug shot of Torres-Gonzalez is attached to this Media Release and he is being held by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office without bond at the Criminal Justice Center. Torres has had previous law enforcement contacts that include weapons charges and falsifying United States identification documents.
