The Citizens' Academy will begin on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 and will be held virtually on Tuesday evenings, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The Academy will be conducted over a 10 week period, culminating in a virtual graduation ceremony on Tuesday, November 17, 2020.
The Academy offers citizens a broad overview and unique insight into the various functions of the Sheriff's Office. Participants will learn about topics such as use of force, illegal marijuana, targeted traffic enforcement, emergency services (which includes our Wildland Fire and Search & Rescue teams), SWAT, and civil process. They will understand the intricacies of a criminal investigation as detectives take them through the investigative process. A tour of the El Paso County Jail will be conducted to demonstrate the challenges facing our detention staff.
There is no charge to attend the Citizens' Academy; however, seating is limited. After a background check clearance, attendees will be provided an invitation letter with a link to a virtual application download. The app must be downloaded on either mobile device, computer, or both. Attendees must be able to navigate the app to include all technical functions involved, we will not be able to assist with technical difficulties as these classes are live.
Applications must be returned no later than 5:00 PM on Friday, September 11, 2020.
Those interested in attending can print the application attached or found at this address: https://bit.ly/3gvRd59
