Last night, the House Judiciary Committee passed in a 7-4 party line vote, Senate Bill 25-003, the most unconstitutional, anti-2nd Amendment legislation in Colorado history.
El Paso County Sheriff Joe Roybal was the first panel law enforcement and public safety witness opposing the bill. During his testimony, he voiced concern this legislation will hinder the rights of law-abiding citizens and end up costing taxpayers in years of litigation.
Sheriff Roybal also testified to his grave concern regarding the creation of a government-sanctioned list of gun owners, which could be used as a tool for confiscating guns in the future.
“I am deeply disappointed in how far politicians are willing to go to drive a political agenda, even at the expense of the safety of their communities,” said Sheriff Joe Roybal. “Public safety experts from across Colorado flooded the Capitol yesterday, and sadly, our words of wisdom and experience fell on deaf ears.
“If passed, Senate Bill-25-003 will come at a high cost to the safety and pocketbooks of Coloradans. I hope common sense prevails at the Capitol in the coming days, and this bill can be stopped before reaching the Governor’s desk.
“May the citizens of El Paso County know; I fought for them. I will continue to fight for them and will never stop. The safety and freedom of all citizens are at the forefront of every decision I make and the core mission of our Office.
“I thank Representatives Armagost, Soper, Caldwell, and Winter for voting in the interest of public safety and opposing Senate Bill 25-003 and the hundreds of Colorado citizens who exercised their civic duty and testified against the bill in committee.
“Colorado is my home, and I will do everything I can to preserve and protect it.”
