On October 19, 2016, Deputies observed a vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway on Glenwood Drive at Cambridge Avenue. Deputies approached the vehicle and the contacted occupants.
A Deputy spoke with the driver and another Deputy contacted the suspect outside of the vehicle.
As the Deputy went to pat the suspect down, he ran through a field towards Park Crest Court. The suspect raised a firearm over his shoulder and fired rounds at the Deputies. He then turned the corner and ran into the neighborhood.
Containment was set up immediately and K-9 and the Crime Reduction Unit responded for a track and search. Due to the large search area and seriousness of the crime, additional K-9 Units and SWAT assisted with the area search, which was unsuccessful.
Detectives were notified and responded to the scene.
The suspect Arturo Maldonado Cerna DOB: 08/03/83, turned himself into the Pueblo County Jail this morning. He is facing charges of two counts of Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer, Attempt to Influence a Public Official and Criminal Impersonation.
