On Monday, October 17, 2016, at approximately 1:07 PM, the Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center received multiple calls regarding visible smoke near Rampart Range Reservoir. The Sheriff's Office Wildland Fire Team and Patrol resources were deployed to the area and air resources were immediately requested.
There were multiple agencies who also responded to assist with the firefighting efforts, evacuations and securing the area. These agencies include multiple fire districts, US Forest Service, Teller County Sheriff's Office, National Park Services from California and Colorado, Woodland Park Police Department, El Paso County Sheriff's Office and El Paso County Wildland Fire Team.
As of this morning the fire is 50% contained and crews will be working on mop up. There are still resources and personnel on scene, and road closures will be in place until approximately 6:00 PM this evening.
