At approximately 3 am on Sunday, May 28th, an emergency 9-11 call came in to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center.
El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a shots fired call in the 2000 block of B Street in unincorporated El Paso County in southern Colorado Springs.
Upon arrival the female victim of a shooting was contacted and immediately transported to a local area hospital. Tragically, the victim succumbed to her injuries.
The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Sylena Maldonado. We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Ms. Sylena Maldonado’s family and friends.
El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Detectives identified multiple scenes and quickly developed leads which helped them to identify a person of interest in the shooting.
Kevin Rued, DOB 02/03/2000 was contacted by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team on Fay Drive in the Security-Widefield area and brought in for questioning without incident.
Rued was booked into the El Paso County jail on First Degree Murder (F1) and Felony Menacing (F5) and other related charges.
This is an active investigation, and any additional information will be released from the El Paso County Sheriff’s office. There is no ongoing threat to the community.
