On March 25, 2022, around 4:00 p.m., a male inmate in the El Paso County Jail died while in custody. The inmate was found unresponsive in his assigned cell. Life saving measures were initiated by Sheriff's Office personnel and medical staff until responders from American Medical Response (AMR) and responders from the Colorado Springs Fire Department arrived and took over. Despite life saving measures, the inmate passed away.

The inmate has been identified as Leroy Eckhoff, age 74. We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Mr. Eckhoff's family and friends.

On March 17, 2022, around 2:22 p.m., a female inmate in the El Paso County Jail died while in custody. The inmate was found unresponsive in her assigned cell. She passed despite life saving measures by on scene personnel, responders from American Medical Response (AMR) and responders from the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

The inmate has been identified as Laura Gibbs, age 41. We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Ms. Gibbs’ family and friends.

On February 15, 2022, just after 8:00 PM, a male inmate in the El Paso County Jail died while in custody. The inmate had been escorted to the medical section for a possible medical issue and became unresponsive. He passed despite life saving measures by on scene personnel and responders from American Medical Response (AMR).

The inmate has been identified as Sean Williams, age 32.  We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Mr. Williams’ family and friends.

On August 28, 2021, an adult male inmate detained at the El Paso County Jail was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and later admitted due to a need for continued medical treatment for various ailments.
 
On September 2, 2021, at around 8:42 PM, the inmate passed away while still being treated at the hospital.  

The inmate has been identified as Wayne Baca, age 64. We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Mr. Baca's family and friends.

On Monday, March 29, 2021, at approximately 5:54 PM, a medical emergency was declared in a male housing ward at the El Paso County Jail. 

A male inmate was found in his cell attempting suicide by hanging. When additional deputies responded to the ward, the inmate was not breathing and had no pulse. The deputies initiated Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and used the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) with the assistance of responding medical staff.  

Despite lifesaving efforts, the male was pronounced deceased.

On October 18, 2020, at approximately 11:45 AM, an inmate who was housed in the Sprung Structure on the El Paso County Jail campus scaled the barbed wire fence and escaped from custody of the El Paso County Jail.

Multiple resources from the Sheriff's Office and other local law enforcement agencies were deployed and the inmate was located in less than an hour, was treated for his injuries, and booked back into the jail.

On July 3, 2020, at approximately 12:19 PM, a medical emergency was declared in a male housing ward at the El Paso County Jail.   

A male inmate was found in his cell attempting suicide by hanging. Numerous deputies responded to the ward and assisted the inmate down. He was not breathing and had no pulse. Life saving efforts began immediately. The deputies initiated Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and used the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) with the assistance of responding medical staff. Despite lifesaving efforts, the male was pronounced deceased on scene.

On Tuesday May 12, 2020, at approximately 1:15 PM, a medical emergency was declared in a male housing ward at the El Paso County Jail.   

A male inmate was found in his cell attempting suicide by hanging. When additional deputies responded to the ward, the inmate was not breathing and had no pulse. The deputies initiated Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and used an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) with the assistance of responding medical staff.  

Despite lifesaving efforts, the male was pronounced deceased.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce a new way for friends, family, and professionals to visit an inmate. As of June 1, 2017, visitors can use a personal computer to visit from home or the office.

Online Public Visits cost $6.00 per 30-minute visit.  Online Professional visits cost $6.00 but are not limited in duration.  On-site visits will continue to be available free of charge.
