On May 9, 2021, at approximately 12:49AM, a medical emergency was declared in a male housing ward at the El Paso County Jail.  

A male was found in his cell unresponsive and not breathing.  Life saving measures were immediately started and continued until AMR and Fire personnel arrived and took over. 

Life saving measures were unsuccessful and the inmate passed away. At this point there is no indication the death is related to COVID-19.

On Monday, March 29, 2021, at approximately 5:54 PM, a medical emergency was declared in a male housing ward at the El Paso County Jail.   

A male inmate was found in his cell attempting suicide by hanging. When additional deputies responded to the ward, the inmate was not breathing and had no pulse. The deputies initiated Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and used the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) with the assistance of responding medical staff.  

On July 3, 2020, at approximately 12:19 PM, a medical emergency was declared in a male housing ward at the El Paso County Jail.  

A male inmate was found in his cell attempting suicide by hanging. Numerous deputies responded to the ward and assisted the inmate down. He was not breathing and had no pulse and life saving efforts began immediately.  The deputies initiated Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and used the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) with the assistance of responding medical staff.  

On Tuesday May 12, 2020, at approximately 1:15 PM, a medical emergency was declared in a male housing ward at the El Paso County Jail.   

A male inmate was found in his cell attempting suicide by hanging.  When additional deputies responded to the ward, the inmate was not breathing and had no pulse.  The deputies initiated Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and used the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) with the assistance of responding medical staff.  

EPSO Press Release: On January 17, 2020, at approximately 9:50 PM, an inmate in the El Paso County Jail died while in custody.  The inmate was housed in the medical section at the time, and passed despite immediate life saving measures by deputies, medical staff and first responders.

On Tuesday November 12, 2019, at approximately 1:42 AM, a medical emergency was declared in a male housing ward at the El Paso County Jail.

A male inmate was found in his cell attempting suicide by hanging.  When additional deputies responded to the ward, the inmate was not breathing and had no pulse.  The deputies initiated cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and used the automated external defibrillator (AED) with the assistance of responding El Paso County Jail medical staff and American Medical Response personnel.

On Tuesday June 4, 2019, at approximately 12:05 PM, a medical emergency was declared in a female housing ward at the El Paso County Jail.  

The El Paso County Jail, located at 2739 E Las Vegas Street, is at a critical point in managing the female inmate population as it reached record highs today of 364. The last record was set in May of 2017, with 358 female inmates. 

In the past 24 hours, 64 more inmates have lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19, 63 of which stemmed from the eight inmates in our media release earlier this week who tested positive for COVID-19.  The additional inmate with a lab-confirmed case was tested in line with other protocols.  This brings the current total of infected inmates to 72.  The eight inmates were identified as a result of routine quarantine and testing prior to movement out to the Department of Corrections to carry out their sentence.
