The El Paso County Sheriff's Office recently became aware of a forgery case pertaining to the Sheriff’s Office Inmate Funds account. When inmates are released from the Criminal Justice Center (CJC) they are issued a check with the Sheriff’s Office account information at the bottom.
The Sheriff’s Office has partnered with the El Paso County Department of Human Services (DHS) to address the physical and mental health concerns of individuals released from jail in El Paso County. The Board of County Commissioners will read a resolution of this partnership at their meeting on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at 9:00 AM.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Justice Center (CJC) underwent a National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) audit in October 2017. The Sheriff’s Office received formal results of this audit in December of 2017, where NCCHC placed the Criminal Justice Center facility on probation. Following receipt of documentation showing implemented protocols which brought the Criminal Justice Center into compliance, the NCCHC’s Accreditation Committee finalized the review, granting formal NCCHC accreditation to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center in December of 2017.
The Pre-Admit Unit is responsible for the initial processing and accounting of all inmate property and monies.
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) Facilitator: Conduct weekly groups using a 12-step method and provide a voluntary fellowship of men and women to attain and maintain sobriety.
Direct Supervision is really a state of mind rather than the physical jail; it is how you approach and manage inmates. The overall goal is the active and continuous supervision of inmates. Direct supervision combines two key elements–physical jail design and an inmate management strategy–to significantly reduce the problem inmate behavior commonly seen in jails. Direct supervision focuses on actively managing inmate behavior to produce a jail that is safe and secure for inmates, staff, and visitors.
The Booking Unit is responsible for processing the inmate into the facility. Specific questions are asked of each inmate and entered into the computer system. A review of all the paperwork is completed and checked again for accuracy. The inmate is seen by medical personnel, as well as fingerprinted by a Colorado Springs City ID technician.
Visitors and inmates can cancel visits any time. If the visit is cancelled prior to start time, the visit will not count towards the inmate’s visits.

Today marks two years since Sheriff Roybal stood before the citizens of El Paso County and swore to protect and serve our community as the duly elected 29th Sheriff of El Paso County.
In 2024, Sheriff Roybal led the Office by proactively supporting anti-crime legislation, increasing community outreach, leading several flagship programs to address mental health and substance abuse for those incarcerated at the El Paso County Jail, and hosting multiple regional training courses for law enforcement partners nationwide.
