Baptist Road Homicide Update

On February 28, at approximately 12:20 PM, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Regional Communications Center received a report of a shooting outside the King Soopers on Baptist Road in Monument, Colorado.

According to the caller, a male suspect approached a vehicle and opened fire. When Monument Police officers and El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered a deceased female inside the vehicle.

At the request of the Monument Police Department, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division has taken the lead in the investigation.

Witnesses reported the suspect fled the area in a green Subaru.

At 12:42 PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department received a report of a suicide in the 6000 block of Bundleflower Ct. When officers arrived, they located a green Subaru at the scene; detectives from EPSO responded.

Detectives from EPSO and CSPD conducted numerous interviews and gathered evidence throughout the night. We believe our investigation indicates this incident is between two people known to each other, is an isolated event, and there is no further risk to the community.

The case is being investigated as a murder-suicide.

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office will determine the identities of those involved, as well as the official cause and manner of death.

This is an ongoing investigation, and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will update as more details become available.
