Arrest Made, Suspect Charged with First Degree Murder in Crawford Avenue Homicide

On March 24, 2025, at approximately 5:46 a.m., an El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputy was patrolling Crawford Avenue in unincorporated El Paso County when they came upon a vehicle stopped in the roadway near the intersection of Crawford Avenue and Withington Drive.

As the deputy approached the vehicle, they observed an unresponsive adult male in the passenger seat. Responding deputies immediately initiated lifesaving measures, which were assumed by members of the Security Fire Department upon their arrival on the scene.

Unfortunately, those efforts were unsuccessful.

Due to the circumstances surrounding the death, the Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division responded and began an investigation.

EPSO Detectives worked diligently into the evening hours, locating a potential crime scene in the 0-100 block of Security Boulevard. Their investigation led to the identification of a suspect.

As a result, 29-year-old Miguel Angel Garcia Hernandez was arrested and charged with the following:

  • First-Degree Murder
  • Second-Degree Kidnapping
  • Felony Menacing
  • False Imprisonment

Garcia Hernandez is currently being held at the El Paso County Jail without bond.

Our Federal partners with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have verified Garcia Hernandez is in the United States illegally.

“As Sheriff, I am committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring our community remains a safe place for all who call El Paso County home,” said Sheriff Roybal. “This case represents an appalling act of violence carried out by an individual who had no legal right to be in our country.

“I thank my Investigations Division for their dedication in bringing swift justice for the victim, and our Tactical Unit, who located and arrested Garcia Hernandez, without incident, early this morning.

“My Office stands firm in our commitment to public safety and justice for all victims. We will continue to work together with our federal partners to hold criminals accountable and protect our community.”
