Traffic Stop Leads to Significant Drug Seizure and Arrest

In the early morning hours of June 30, 2025, at approximately 3:10 a.m., El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a routine patrol check at the Travelodge Hotel on Space Village Avenue in unincorporated El Paso County.

Deputies observed a spray-painted black Subaru Legacy without license plates entering the hotel parking lot. As the vehicle came to a stop, a deputy positioned a marked patrol unit behind it to investigate what appeared to be a stolen vehicle. The driver, later identified as 31-year-old Hayden Cutter, made an abrupt attempt to park and exit the vehicle in an effort to avoid contact.

While speaking with Cutter, deputies observed several pieces of drug paraphernalia in plain view and noted a large knife within immediate reach of the driver.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered:

  • 86 grams of methamphetamine
  • 15 fentanyl pills
  • A large knife
  • A replica “UZI” airsoft gun
  • Additional drug paraphernalia

Hayden Cutter was arrested and transported to the El Paso County Jail. He was booked on the following charges:

  • Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Special Offender
  • No License Plate Attached

He is currently being held on a $75,000 bond.

Sheriff Joseph Roybal issued the following statement regarding the arrest:

“This arrest is a strong example of how proactive policing keeps dangerous drugs and weapons off our streets. I commend my deputies for remaining alert and taking quick action to ensure the safety of the community. We remain committed to holding offenders accountable and protecting El Paso County from the impact of drug-related crime.”
