The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office proudly celebrated its dedicated volunteers during a special recognition event held this week at the Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The celebration brought together volunteers, staff, and community leaders to recognize the outstanding service and impact of those who support the agency’s mission through selfless dedication.
In 2024, 221 active volunteers contributed a remarkable 39,574 hours of service, equivalent to over $1.3 million in value based on national volunteer rates.
These hours represent critical contributions to search and rescue efforts, jail-based education and recovery programs, administrative support, language services, community outreach, wildland firefighting, therapy K9 programs, and more.
“You are the heart behind so much of what we do,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal during his keynote remarks. “At a time when public service grows more complex and resources often strained, your willingness to give of yourselves freely and without expectation means the world to us. It makes us better. It makes this community stronger.”
The Sheriff’s Office also welcomed 49 new volunteers in 2024 and celebrated the success of its internship program, with five of nine interns transitioning into employment with the agency.
Additionally, six former employees returned to serve in a volunteer capacity, further underscoring the deep connection and commitment shared by those who serve.

- Chaplain and Religious Services (Patrol & Jail)
- Alcoholics/Narcotics Anonymous (Jail-based)
- Library and Education (Jail-based)
- Wildland Fire
- Victim Advocacy, MOCOM, Therapy K9s
- Administrative and Language Services
- Investigations, Internships, and Training Support
- Reserve Deputies
- Sheriff’s Office Posse
