Deputies Safely Resolve Armed Standoff Involving Mental Health Crisis, Suspect Arrested on Domestic Violence Charges

On October 1, 2025, shortly before midnight, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Regional Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a male experiencing a mental health crisis and armed with a firearm. The caller also stated they had been assaulted.

During the call, the suspect reportedly said he would harm himself if law enforcement responded. He remained outside the residence with the firearm, while the caller, inside with two children, secured the home and prevented his entry.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Patrol deputies arrived, established containment, and attempted to contact the male by phone without success. While deputies searched for the suspect, he attempted to force entry into the residence. The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Robert-Anthony King, was located outside the home and safely persuaded to surrender without further incident.

Following the incident, King was booked into the El Paso County Jail on the following charges:

-Domestic Violence
-Second Degree Kidnapping
-Attempted Second Degree Assault
-Third Degree Assault
-Harassment
-Criminal Mischief
-Criminal Tampering
-Prohibited Use of a Weapon

Robert-Anthony King was transported to the El Paso County Jail, where he is being held on a $10,000 bond.

“This incident highlights the difficult balance my deputies must maintain when responding to calls involving both a mental health crisis and criminal behavior,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “These deputies acted with compassion while ensuring accountability for violence committed against others. Protecting victims and providing opportunities for intervention are both essential to our mission of reducing victims and strengthening community safety.”
