El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Potential Threat to D-38 Lewis-Palmer School District

Recently, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office received information regarding a potential threat involving schools in the Monument area on Tuesday, December 16. The information did not identify a specific school within the D-38 Lewis-Palmer School District.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating and thoroughly reviewing all information received. Detectives are working to determine the credibility of the reported threat and have conducted multiple interviews and investigative actions consistent with the information provided.

This investigation includes close coordination with the District 38 School Security Team, School Resource Officers, and regional law enforcement partners across the Pikes Peak region, including the Colorado Springs Police Department and the Monument Police Department.

D-38 Lewis-Palmer School District has announced the closure of all district schools on December 16, 2025.

“School safety is a priority for my Office, and my deputies treat every threat as credible until proven otherwise,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “From our dedicated School Resource Officers to our detectives and regional law-enforcement partners, protecting students, educators, and staff remains at the forefront of our mission.”

Sheriff Roybal emphasized school safety requires constant vigilance and shared responsibility.

“The safety of our children, teachers, and staff must never be taken for granted. School safety is an all-hands-on-deck responsibility requiring coordination, awareness, and accountability from everyone involved,” Sheriff Roybal said. “When individuals choose to make threats—whether real or false—they undermine trust, create fear, and disrupt our community.”

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office encourages community members to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement, school administrators, or through Safe2Tell at safe2tell.org or 877-542-7233.

“Our School Resource Officers, Investigations Division, and regional partners, acted swiftly and professionally to investigate this information and identify its source,” Sheriff Roybal added. “Their diligence and commitment to student safety reflect the high standards expected of those entrusted with protecting our schools.”

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will continue working closely with school district leadership and law-enforcement partners and will provide updates as additional information becomes available.
