On September 18, 2026, at approximately 12:57 PM, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Regional Communications Center received a call reporting a burglary in progress at a residence in the 15000 block of East Highway 24 in the Falcon area of unincorporated El Paso County.
A neighbor reported witnessing an adult male exit a white van, enter the property, and gain access to the residence through a window. As Patrol deputies responded, dispatchers confirmed with the homeowner the individual was not authorized to be on the property.
Upon arrival, deputies cleared and secured the surrounding area, which included several outbuildings and nearby homes, and established a perimeter around the residence.
Deputies also contacted the driver of the white van, a ride-share provider, who provided identifying information about the suspect.
Deputies identified the suspect as 36-year-old James DShone Williams and learned Williams has an extensive criminal history.
Because of the circumstances and Williams’ criminal history, members of the Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Impact Team (FIT) responded, along with a Drone as a First Responder and K9 Dex.
Deputies attempted to contact Williams by phone and issued repeated vocal commands for him to exit the residence. When those efforts were unsuccessful, FIT and patrol deputies entered the residence and located Williams in a bathroom. He was uncooperative, and a less-lethal pepper ball was deployed. After Williams failed to surrender, K9 Dex was deployed and successfully apprehended Williams.
Williams was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the incident.
“My deputies responded quickly, secured the surrounding area, and used the resources available to safely resolve this incident,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “When someone unlawfully enters a home, our deputies will take the necessary steps to protect the victims, the community, and each other while holding the suspect accountable. I also want to recognize K9 Dex for his work today and the members of our Fugitive Impact Team, Patrol, Regional Communications Center, and our partner agencies who worked together to bring this incident to a safe conclusion.”
After receiving medical clearance, James DShone Williams was booked into the El Paso County Jail on the following charges:
-Second Degree Burglary
-Obstructing a Peace Officer
-Resisting Arrest
-Failure to Leave Premises
-Criminal Mischief
He is currently being held on a $2,000 bond, the amount set by state statute.
