Deceased Individual Identified in In-Custody Death Following Hospitalization

On Friday, March 6, 2026, at approximately 1:00 PM, a 35-year-old female in custody was being treated by medical personnel at the El Paso County Jail. Medical staff determined she required additional care and arranged for her transfer to a local hospital.

At approximately 1:15 PM, paramedics from AMR arrived and transported the female to a local hospital. Security was provided and maintained by a deputy with the Sheriff’s Office. After arrival, the individual was admitted to the hospital.

Despite advanced medical care and efforts at the hospital, the individual’s condition worsened, and she passed away at approximately 11:34 PM.

The deceased individual has been identified as 35-year-old Meika Tucker.

Our Office extends condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time.

Sheriff Roybal ordered an in-depth investigation into the incident. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division will conduct this investigation, adhering to the standards we provide for all citizens of El Paso County.

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has completed an autopsy and is awaiting toxicology results before making a final determination as to the cause and manner of Ms. Tucker’s death.
