Deputy Sheriff Arrested on Felony Charges

In November 2025, detectives from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division were alerted to the possibility a deputy assigned to the El Paso County Jail was facilitating the distribution of contraband throughout the facility.

Detectives with the Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) launched a months-long investigation which included executing multiple search warrants, conducting interviews, reviewing video footage, and reviewing phone calls.

Their investigation revealed 29-year-old Nicholas Guerrette had facilitated the transfer of contraband and illicit drugs between incarcerated individuals while on duty.

In the interest of Jail security, Guerrette was placed on paid administrative leave on August 5, 2026. Detectives continued their investigation and, in collaboration with the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, arrested Nicholas Guerrette on October 29, 2026.

He was transported to the Teller County Jail, and booked on thirteen felony and nine misdemeanor charges, including:

Anyone who violates this trust will be held accountable. Our responsibility is to protect every community member, whether they are incarcerated or living in our neighborhoods.

“The Sheriff’s Office badge represents public trust, and we will work every day to honor this trust through our actions.”

Subsequent to his arrest, on October 29, 2026, he was placed on unpaid administrative leave.

He is being held on a $100,000 bond.

Nicholas Guerrette was hired on October 9, 2023, and was assigned to the Detention Bureau- Detention Security Division.
