Sheriff Joseph Roybal Marks Third Year in Office

This week marks three years since Sheriff Joseph Roybal began his service as the 29th Sheriff of El Paso County. As the first Latino to lead the office, Sheriff Roybal shared a reflection on the agency’s milestones and its unwavering commitment to public safety.

“It has been an honor to serve the men and women of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of the Pikes Peak region as their elected Sheriff over the past three years,” said Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “Together, my deputies, professional staff, and volunteers have accomplished significant goals, met critical public-safety milestones, and worked tirelessly to ensure our constitutional rights are preserved and respected.”

Under Sheriff Roybal’s leadership, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office achieved numerous milestones in 2025, including the groundbreaking of a future substation in Northeast El Paso County, the return of the Sheriff’s Posse to the community, and the hosting of dozens of regional law-enforcement training academies with partner agencies from across the nation.

The Office also opened its newly expanded El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Regional Communications Center, now the largest and most technologically advanced call-taking center in the State of Colorado. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office added 15 Volunteer Wildland Firefighters to its force and raised and donated more than $150,000 to local charities and families in need.

“While law enforcement agencies across the nation continue to face unprecedented staffing and retention challenges, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has reached a ‘fully staffed’ or ‘overstaffed’ status in deputy sheriff positions every year since my first year in office in 2023—ensuring our community continues to receive the level of public safety service it deserves.”

Throughout the year, members of the Office participated in hundreds of community events, supporting partner law-enforcement agencies, schools, faith organizations, small businesses, and neighborhoods throughout El Paso County.

“I am proud of what we have accomplished together and look forward to continuing to deliver quality service to our community,” Sheriff Roybal added.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to strengthening public safety, building community trust, and delivering professional, accountable service to all who live, work, and visit the Pikes Peak region.
