Sheriff’s Office Investigates Inmate Death

At approximately 5:38 am on August 8th, 2025, a 33-year-old female (in custody) was found unresponsive in her cell at the El Paso County Jail.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies and medical staff responded and began rendering lifesaving efforts.

At approximately 05:54 am, medical personnel from American Medical Response (AMR) and the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) arrived and assumed medical care of the individual.  She was pronounced deceased.

Our Office extends our condolences to the individual’s family and friends during this difficult time.

Sheriff Roybal has ordered an in-depth investigation into the incident. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division and El Paso County Coroner’s Office will conduct this investigation.

At this stage of the investigation, there is no indication of foul play or self-harm.

In addition, Sheriff Roybal has requested an autopsy by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office. The Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the individual when appropriate.
