Sheriff’s Office Partners with Code Enforcement, Keep Colorado Springs Beautiful, Clean Homeless Encampments

On September 23, 2026, El Paso County Code Enforcement contacted the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office regarding several homeless encampments on private property near East Las Vegas Street (under the Marin Luther King Jr. bypass) in unincorporated El Paso County.

Deputies assigned to the Support Services Section of the Law Enforcement Bureau responded to the area, contacted individuals staying at the encampments, provided information about available resources, and posted notices to vacate.

While in the area, deputies also located a large encampment near South U.S. Highway 85/87 and Maxwell Street.

In partnership with Keep Colorado Springs Beautiful, deputies scheduled a cleanup.

On September 29, 2026, Sheriff’s Office deputies, El Paso County Code Enforcement personnel, and Keep Colorado Springs Beautiful employees returned to the encampments and removed trash and debris from the properties.

“Addressing homeless encampments requires collaboration, compassion, and accountability,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal.  “Our deputies worked to connect individuals with available resources and provide notice before returning with our partners to clean the affected properties. We appreciate El Paso County Code Enforcement and Keep Colorado Springs Beautiful for working alongside us to help restore these areas, protect the property rights of our citizens, and keep our community clean and safe.”
