Traffic Stop Leads to Arrests and Seizure of Guns and Illicit Drugs

On August 29, 2026, at approximately 9:27 PM, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Traffic deputies conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Peterson Road and Panamint Court in the Cimarron Hills area of unincorporated El Paso County.

During the traffic stop, deputies observed a firearm and drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the vehicle. Deputies detained the vehicle’s occupants, identified as 48-year-old Preston Reno and 43-year-old Amanda Pacheco-Sammon, and conducted a search of the vehicle.

During the search, deputies located an additional firearm, fentanyl pills, illicit drugs, and a large amount of U.S. currency.

“This traffic stop is an excellent example of the impact my deputies have every day in keeping our citizens safe,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal“My deputies removed deadly drugs, illegal firearms, and prolific criminals from our streets, preventing these dangerous substances and weapons from causing further harm in our community. I am proud of the vigilance and dedication my deputies demonstrate every day, and I commend them for taking these dangerous individuals out of our neighborhoods.”

Reno was booked into the El Paso County Jail on the following charges:

  • Aggravated Driving After Revocation
  • Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender
  • Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Special Offender — Drug Offenses
  • Various traffic offenses

He is being held on a $50,000 bond, the standard amount set by state statute.

Pacheco-Sammon was booked into the El Paso County Jail on the following charges:

  • Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender
  • Special Offender — Drug Offenses
  • Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Unlawful Distribution, Manufacture, Dispensing or Sale of a Controlled Substance

She was released on a $50,000 bond, the standard amount set by state statute.
