Delta Drive CSPD OIS Update

On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at approximately 3:35 PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a report of road rage involving a firearm. Upon contacting the reporting party, officers obtained suspect information that led them to an apartment complex in the 2100 block of Delta Drive.

At around 9:30 PM, officers attempted to contact the suspect, announcing themselves as police. When the suspect opened the door, he was armed with a handgun raised and pointed at the officers. At least one officer discharged their firearm, but no one was struck by the gunfire.
Shortly thereafter, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

In accordance with Colorado State law, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigative agency for this officer-involved shooting and have taken the lead on the initial investigation.

The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Avery Denton, has been charged with Menacing and booked into the El Paso County Jail on a $2,000 bond.

Per CSPD policy, the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.

This remains an active investigation, and additional information will be released as appropriate.
