El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Celebrates Graduation of Class 25-1

Today, El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal administered the Oath of Office to 39 POST-certified deputies and law enforcement officers, and six El Paso County Security officers during the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Regional Training Academy Class 25-1 Graduation Ceremony at New Life Church in Colorado Springs.

Of the 39 graduates, 31 will join the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, while others will begin careers with partnering agencies: four deputies will serve with the Teller County Sheriff’s Office, two officers with Colorado State Parole, one deputy with the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, and one officer with the Cañon City Police Department.

The academy began on February 16, 2025, and spanned 22 weeks of intensive physical training, academic instruction, and scenario-based exercises. Twenty of the graduates are veterans of the United States Armed Forces, continuing their service to the public through careers in law enforcement.

This is the seventh class to graduate under the updated POST certification program since Sheriff Roybal took office in January 2023.

“I am incredibly proud to welcome these 39 dedicated men and women into the law enforcement community,” said Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “Their discipline, commitment, and passion for service were evident throughout the 22-week academy. I also want to recognize and thank the 20 military veterans in this class for their continued service to our country. I appreciate the trust Sheriffs Mikesell, Cooper, Chief Schick, and Director Wolfsgruber have placed in our training program—each of their recruits is prepared to serve with honor and excellence.”

“Congratulations, Recruit Class 25-1. You are now part of something greater—welcome to the peacekeeper family.”

The next POST-certified class from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Regional Training Academy is scheduled to graduate in fall 2025 and will include recruits from agencies across Colorado.
